Current research projects
- Edited book project contributor to Foreign Publics, Foreign Policies: Shaping Attitudes Towards Global Events in the United States and Japan, expected winter 2009; chapter author of "Japan's Security Identity and Security Practice in a New Century: Scenarios for Change".
- Edited book project contributor to new project on U.S.-Japan-China trilateral cooperation in the coming years, funded by the Luce Foundation and sponsored by the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); chapter author of chapter on U.S.-Japan-China military confidence-building and cooperation exercises and prospects. Published volume expected in Winter 2009.
- Article in progress - "The U.S. Alliance as a Mechanism of Change: Japan's Rise in the East Asian Security Order" presented at the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association, September 2007.
- Other topics I am reading about/interested in include continued movement toward intelligence reform in Japan and the United States, the strengthened foreign policymaking roles of the prime ministers of advanced industrial democracies (such as the U.K, Germany, and Japan), and the evolving security architecture and coordination in East Asia and beyond.
